About Us

My name is Jordan Russell, I have worked with birds and reptiles since I was a child. Always fascinated by the amazing biodiversity of this planet and the accompanying challenges and rewards of maintaining these species in captivity.

As a child I began keeping and breeding cockatiels and indian ringnecks around age 9. By the time I was 12 I borrowed some money from my sister for caging and bank rolled the profits I had made from breeding birds to purchase a pair of Blue and Gold Macaws, a pair of Military Macaws and a pair of Umbrella cockatoos from a retiring breeder. Later that same year I produced my first Umbrella Cockatoos and Blue and Gold Macaws.

Around that time (circa 1995) we acquired a juvenile leopard tortoise, and I traded some baby birds I produced for a clutch of Bearded Dragons which were significantly less common than they are today. Over the following years I bred and raised a variety of Pisttacines and later expanded more into reptiles.

In 2002, I opened a retail exotic bird store and managed a collection at my home of around 140 pairs of birds. My primary focus was Pyrrhura conures, but I also worked with other species: Caiques, Cockatoos, Amazons, Rollers, Turacos, Toucans, Aracaris, Hornbills, Eclectus and Red Fronted Macaws rounded out the remainder of the species I worked with.

These days I work with a small collection of reptiles (predominantly Geckos, but also some lizards and tortoises) and have a small manageable colellection of African Hornbills.

My wife is a Phd student at scripps institute of oceanography here in San Diego Ca.

I vend most of the Reptile Super Shows (San Diego & Pomona CA). Look for us there, and be sure to introduce yourselves :)
